One of the many ways that children learn is through observing the world around them and practicing what they see. When children see adults value reading, they get the message that reading is important.
This month we invited guests to Read Across CDN. Children were read to by parents and many members of our community, including professionals from the East Orange Early Childhood Department, members of the CDN Board of Trustees, and even East Orange Mayor, Ted Green! They were introduced to new stories, and revisited old favorites. They learned new vocabulary, and even got up and moved!
When children are read to, they use their imaginations to have books take them to all kinds of places! They begin to understand that print has meaning. They learn new words and think about new things. And above all, they develop a love for reading that will keep them learning!
